Barring illness or pre-cleared religious observance exemption, this test date is your one and only chance to take the 2014 SHSAT as a 9th grader or an 8th or 9th grader with special needs. The November 16th make-up date is only for students who have a documented absence approved by their school counselor and who receive an official make-up date ticket. There are no walk-ins and no late registrations, so plan early.

If you have not approached your guidance counselor (or vice versa) about registering to take the SHSAT by the end of September you must do so immediately, as the deadline for registration is October 14th. School counselors have widely varying degrees of experience with this process.  If your school has few students applying to the Specialized High Schools or your guidance counselor is unfamiliar with the process, Partners with Parents is happy to help.  You or your counselor can call us (212) 928-5016 or reach us by email.

Testing times vary by location and date, so be sure to double-check your admissions ticket. We recommend that you try to arrive 30 minutes early, if possible, to avoid any problems and settle in before the test is administered. Make sure you have your admission ticket, #2 pencils, photo ID and your game face. Ideally, you should have a non-calculator watch, as well, to keep track of your timing through the test. Do not bring your cell phone, calculator or self-doubt. Double-check that you know how to get to the test center. Plan for a good night's sleep, breakfast well—and then go get ‘em!
